The Top 5 Free Directories for Businesses

This is Your Marketing Minute from Forward Push, and today I wanted to talk to you about online directories. If you have ever done a search, pretty much for anything that’s on the Internet, you have come across online directories.
If you have done a search for a restaurant, more than likely you have come across Yelp or Foursquare at the top of your search results.
This is also true if you’ve done a search for maybe a doctor, you will come across a medical directory versus maybe a doctor’s own website.
So, what that means is these online directories are important. And today I wanted to share with you our five directories that you have to be listed on as a small business.
Number one, the first directory that you need to be listed on as a small business is Yelp. Now, I know Yelp gets a sort of not so good reputation from a large handful of small business owners, but that typically has to do when people are advertising with them. So that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be listed there. And here’s why I like Yelp; 1 it’s the fourth most viewed website on the Internet as a whole.
There’s a ton of traffic. In fact, they get 200 million people read reviews online with Yelp every single month. That’s a lot of people. The other thing about Yelp, which is so great, is that 75% of their traffic comes from search engine results. So that means people are typing into Google and ending up on Yelp and then they end up on your website. And we know that about 20% of the visits that come to Yelp are people that are looking and are ready to make a purchase. They just haven’t decided yet who they’re going to buy from.
And the number 2 directory where I want you to be listed is Bing. Now, again, you might be thinking who uses Bing? Well, there’s actually 100 million daily users on Bing. Now, certainly that’s not as many people going to Google, but are you going to turn away hundred million people to have the opportunity to see your business online?
I don’t think so. So you need to be listed there. Here’s the best thing about Bing For Business – If you already have a Google My Business profile set up, then you can easily connect your Bing For Business and it will sync up with everything you’ve done on Google My Business. So technically, you don’t even need to set it up. You just got to get your profile there. Boom, it syncs and you are set on Bing For Business.
The number 3 directory where you need to be listed as a small business is BBB, the Better Business Bureau. Here’s why – High trust from consumers when consumers see the BBB seal and an A+ rating, they know that you are a trusted business. I also like to have your business listed on the Better Business Bureau is because if anyone leaves a review there, those reviews are moderated and reviewed before they get published.
This is great. If you’ve got someone that is just out there maliciously trying to smear your business and put phony fake reviews up, not going to happen on the Better Business Bureau, which is why I love having your business listed there.
The number 4 directory where your business should be listed is on LinkedIn. Every business can have a profile on LinkedIn. So, this is different than your personal profile. This is actually your company profile. And everyone knows business people do business on LinkedIn, so you’ve got to be listed there. I like also that your profile can be
regularly updated so you can go in every day, multiple times a day, whenever you want and add to your business profile. You can post videos, you can post links to your blogs,
you can talk about company updates.
LinkedIn is the one profile for your business that you can continually just go in and make better and better and better. And the last thing that I like about LinkedIn, especially for your business in the profile you’re going to create, is there is just a high volume of conversions on LinkedIn. Going back to what I originally said, it’s where business people do business. So when a business person is looking to do business, they’re on LinkedIn and you’re going to get those high conversions because you have a profile listed there.
And the last business directory, number 5 where you need to be listed is called Alignable. Now, you might not have heard of it because it’s not really that well known. Which is great because there’s a good chance your competitors aren’t there now, Alignable will allow you to set up a business profile, and its goal is to connect business owners to business owners so that they can refer each other business.
So think of this as a networking group online. It’s called Alignable. Check it out, register your business, at the very least, and then start to connect your network so they can refer you through Alignable.
So now you know about 5 directories where you can list your business. Here’s the great thing about each of them. It’s free. It doesn’t cost you anything to be listed in these directories.
And we know that these directories rank high in a Google search. So, 15 minutes of time, each directory go in, claim your profile, fill out your profile and start receiving leads from prospects that are using these directories to find out about businesses just like yours.
