New Facebook Home App for Android

Sometimes you can’t believe everything you read on the Internet… Case-in-point, all of the talk that Facebook would be releasing a phone today. Well, that didn’t quite happen but we did get the unveiling of Facebook Home, a new integration on Android devices that will put updates from Facebook directly on your homescreen.

“You’re going to be able to turn your Android phone into a great social device,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the announcement. “Our phones today are designed around apps, not people. We want to flip that around.”

One feature of Facebook Home is called Chat Heads, which essentially will allow you to message with friends, no matter what app you’re already in. This means you’ll no longer have to close out of reading an email or surfing the web to have a chat with a friend.

We also got to take a look at the first Facebook Home optimized phone, the HTC First, available from AT&T starting April 12 for $99.99, with a two-year contract.

Are you disappointed that we didn’t get a Facebook Phone announcement today?
