From preparing students for careers and engaging alumni to marketing and admissions outreach
LinkedIn recently launched University Pages, a section on the social network that will allow younger users to connect with higher education institutions. Already more than 200 schools have profile pages as part of the beta release with more being added daily.
This effort comes at the same time, LinkedIn has lowered the minimum age to join the network in the U.S. to 14.
The new University Pages profile gives prospective students a look at how many of the school’s graduates are on LinkedIn and what fields they work in. The page also lists the top employers of alumni.
If you handle the social media for your school, here are a few of the items you will be able to add to you new University Page:
About: Your school’s name, description, address, email, and website
Images: Similar to your Company page, you can add a logo, cover photo, photo gallery, and video
Detailed Information: Here you can share with a prospective student what type of institution you are, what programs you teach, financial aid options, tuition, student population, student/faculty ratio, graduation rate, and more
Featured Group: If your alumni have a LinkedIn group, you can link it here
See Also: In this section, add your Company’s page link
How do I create a LinkedIn University Page for my school?
The process to get started is very simple. To request a new University Page, you must have a school email address that is linked to your LinkedIn account and the school must be listed in the Experience section of your LinkedIn profile.
If you have the above, you can request a Page here and include the following information:
– Your school’s website address
– The country where your school is located
– If you have a LinkedIn Company Page, include the URL
– If the school has multiple campuses, include this information, so those pages can become part of your See Also section.
What does the new LinkedIn University Page mean for your school?
Look for an increase in activity on LinkedIn with and about your school. Since the new Page showcases every person that has your school listed on their profile, they also will be following you automatically.
Know your alumni better. You’ll know be able to show how your student body has succeeded in their careers after attending your school all in one place.
Knowledge for all. Now everyone on LinkedIn will be able to see who has graduated from your school, what career path they have chosen, graduation rates, tuition costs, and more.
We’re excited about this new social media opportunity for higher education institutions on LinkedIn. By lowering the age to participate, more students at an earlier age will have the opportunity to learn about your institution. You’ll also have concrete information to share with perspective students. We look forward to seeing your University Page.
