How Far Will Technology Push the Future of Education?

Technology and Education

Each day a new child says out loud, “I want to be a ______________ when I grow up.” It is a moment in time that either sticks or it’s a fleeting dream that passes as quick as it was said. At the young age of 10 I knew I wanted to be a journalist and that writing was something I enjoyed. Lucky for me I had the opportunity as a teen to write for my local newspaper which only fueled my passion to start a national magazine and then to write a book on marketing and how it drives the sales cycle.

Maybe that’s why when Envisioning Tech released their Envisioning the Future of Education Technogy infographic it struck a chord with me. Their research shows that 65% of today’s grade school children will end up in jobs that haven’t been invented yet. WOW! Besides the obvious question, what are kids telling their parents they want to be when they grow up, taking a deeper look at the statistics we can see how we must start to anticipate technology’s evolution and then how we can start to incorporate these new things in to the classroom.

Is the answer that every student receives a tablet instead of books? How about hologram teachers that teach several classrooms at once? Maybe each desktop becomes a dashboard continually updating the student’s performance in relation to his peers?
