Does My SMB Need a Mobile Website?

Mobile and the Small Business

If you’re a small- to medium-sized business (SMB) owner, do you realize just how important a mobile website is for your company? According to a study done from FastCasual.com, 59 percent of small and medium-sized businesses don’t. With mobile marketing at the forefront in today’s marketplace, this figure is startling.

The two leading industries for mobile website use are hotels and bed and breakfasts, followed closely behind by the restaurant industry. However, regardless of your industry, it is important to recognize just how much you’re missing out on when it comes to reaching consumers on their phones.

Reaching Consumers On Their Phone is the Way of the Future

While the days of desktop browsing are far from over, it is clear that mobile website usage is here to stay. That means that your SMB needs to be embracing this trend to take advantage of countless potential customers seeking goods or services through their mobile devices.

In fact, if you aren’t planning on adapting a mobile website anytime soon, your business will pay the price. A recent study done by Google’s Think Insights elaborates on some of the many issues that businesses face without a mobile website, including:

  • Helping Your Competitors – Google’s study found that approximately half of all respondents reported that if a company doesn’t have a mobile website, they will use them less often than if a company took the time to develop a mobile-friendly site.
  • Hurting Your Reputation – Frustrated, annoyed, and  lack of engagement are just some of the terms that can describe customers who encounter non-mobile friendly websites. In fact, a poor mobile experience can often cost you sales and a negative reflection on your brand, as was evidenced by the 52 percent of respondents who claim that bad mobile experiences makes them less likely to return to a brand at all.
  • Failure to Convert – When your SMB is able to offer an excellent mobile website experience to customers, purchases are more likely to be made. In fact, 67 percent of respondents to Google’s survey reported that they would be more likely to buy a site’s product or service. Without a mobile website, you can likely kiss these customers goodbye.
