Say Goodbye to Social Media Vanity Metrics
Transcript from the video:
This is Your Marketing Minute from Forward Push and it is time to say bye bye bye to likes on Instagram. Well, at least as a test for right now. Some users are reporting that their Instagram posts no longer are showing the number of likes that each post received.
Instead they are seeing this notice that says we want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get. So, is this the beginning of seeing vanity metrics go away and we actually start focusing on what it’s all about, sharing great content with people? And it could be, I for one am very happy about this because the vanity metrics really are complete BS and I think everyone certainly knows that.
And in fact, I’m not the only one. Jack Dorsey, who started Twitter, recently said at a Ted conference that he finds followers now meaningless. He also said this, “If I had to start the service again, “I wouldn’t emphasize the like button. “In fact, I don’t think I would even create it “in the first place,” so there you go. Jack Dorsey who started Twitter also agrees that this like button and these vanity metrics are no longer needed.
So, I for one am gonna stop double-tapping on posts and I encourage you to do the same.
